Campus community encouraged to update Google Chrome to mitigate critical vulnerability

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has requested that all Ohio University students, faculty and staff update their Google Chrome browsers to mitigate the risk associated with a critical vulnerability that is being actively exploited.

Updating to the latest version of Google Chrome will patch a browser vulnerability that was recently identified as a high security severity by the federal government's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and has been logged into the National Vulnerability Database.

Failing to update your Google Chrome browser could lead to a complete system compromise and allow a remote attacker to steal your data and access sensitive information.

To ensure the security of both your personal data, and Ohio University data, all students, faculty and staff are asked to update and restart their Chrome browsers to apply the update. The updated browsers should have a minimum version of 125.0.6422.141/.142 for Windows and Mac, or 125.0.6422.141 for Linux.

If you encounter any issues while updating your browser, please contact OIT for assistance.
